Apr 18 @ 9:00 pm – Apr 19 @ 2:00 am

Pabst Blue Ribbon and The Common are proud to present…

Mad Bomber Society

Mad Bomber Society is a highly energetic, six-piece ska band from Edmonton that specializes in creating an exciting, infectious, and entertaining live music performance. Mad Bomber Society does not hesitate to make its presence felt or its music heard and has earned a reputation as a powerful live act.

The Tsunami Brothers

Surf music is alive and well all over the globe and it is enjoyed by people of all ages. It is infectious fun and has a remarkable energy. Like the sea, surf music has had its ebbs and flows from the first wave from 1961-1964, through the second surge from 1979-1980, and on to the third and current swell of surf music from 1994 to the present wave.

In 2010, The Tsunami Brothers were born and still hold the title as Edmonton’s only authentic instrumental surf band. The Tsunami Brothers play authentic Surf music with intensity and passion. Their attention to detail, wardrobe, and dance moves take audiences back to the groovy 60s, a time a of peace, love, and rocking music. Audiences can’t help but jump to their feet and dance when they hear their smashing set list, including classics like Wipe Out, Misirlou, and Walk Don’t Run, combined with originals Accidental Beach, Cool Joe, Stink Bug, and The Quicksilver Finals, from their self-titled EP released in 2018.

The Tsunami Brothers, a surf rock band in Edmonton, reminds us all that surfing is believing.

Live in Edmonton: Harpdog Brown & The Uptown Blues Band @ Station On Jasper
Apr 19 @ 7:00 pm – Apr 20 @ 2:00 am

Harpdog Brown gave an amazing performance in January.

Now he’s coming back to claim our blues-lovin’ hearts all over again.
A Maple Blues Award winner with a ton of stage presence, Harpdog Brown puts a new spin on vintage sounds. Experience it for yourself on April 19 – doors at 7 PM, but feel free to swing by earlier for Happy Hour deals on food and drink!

Advance tickets $20, $25 at the door

Harpdog Brown has grown a reputation as a real-deal purveyor of classic electric blues. Think of the old Chess Records and Sun Records of the late 40’s and early 50’s. These days he’s been touring more and more as Harpdog Brown & the Uptown Blues Band – a vintage New Orleans Blues sound featuring slide trombone, keyboards, bass and drums and often a sax and clarinet. Still a vintage vibe, just a different vintage! This music will move you! They perform mostly originals yet they often include great songs of the masters from that era. Think Louis Jordan, Satchmo, Sonny Boy Williamson, Wynonie Harris, even Duke Ellington. Audiences are raving about this new show!

He’s been called a Blues Evangelist, and that’s a very fitting moniker. “I speak the blues like it’s the truth, and it is”, he was recently quoted. “I do feel like I’m a servant of the people. A missionary if you will. Music can heal people if they pay attention to the messages in these songs.” He delivers those messages using the vintage sound whether it be with his lowdown classic blues band the Travelin’ Blues Show or with his Uptown Blues Band. Harpdog says “Blues has a healing power. It’s a beautiful celebration of our perfectly flawed lives. We help people forget about their issues of the moment and then they realize that we all have our issues, and that’s OK.”

Vancouver-based Harpdog Brown was born in Edmonton in 1962, an adopted child who has felt somewhat detached his whole life – “a lifelong battle of not feeling like I belonged. I feel like I was born for the circus, you know, born to travel. The blues tapped me on the shoulder years ago and said ‘this is where you belong, son’. So the blues became my circus and there’s no better way to travel than with a band!”

Harpdog Brown is a gifted vocalist and an imaginative harmonica player. Piano man Dave Webb has been working with Harpdog over the years and they share an intuition that only comes with many hours and miles shared on and off stage. Joseph Abbott (Clarinet) and Riley Bartlett (trumpet) are the newest and youngest additions to the band. Riley is a home boy to Winnipeg who just recently relocated to Vancouver where he started sitting in with the Dog and now he’s touring with him. Rounding out the band is Rick Jacobson from the state of Washington on the tubs.

Harpdog has won three consecutive Maple Blues Awards for Harmonica Player of the Year (2014/2015/2016), the Fraser Valley Music Award, has three consecutive Western Canadian Music Awards Nominations, a Juno Nomination and is the only Canadian to win the coveted Muddy Award. In 2016, he was nominated for 3 Maple Blues Awards (Harmonica Player, Male Vocalist and Album of the Year) for his latest release Travelin’ With The Blues.
Travelin’ With The Blues released in 2016 is still sitting in the top roots and blues charts and follows his Top 20 charting 2014 release What It Is (Roots Music Report International Blues Albums).

Get off the couch and some see some seriously vintage blues that’s lots of fun!

“This band could play anywhere in the world, in any venue, large or small, and blues fans of all stripes would love this show.” – Holger Petersen, SiriusXM, CKUA and CBC broadcaster and President of Stony Plain Records

“Brown sings with unabashed swagger and twang, raspily riffing and booming through stanzas of bluesy tropes in an accent seemingly borrowed from a mythical part of the American South that doesn’t exist.” ~GIG CITY

As Harpdog recently put it, “After more than 30 years of blood, sweat and tears, it feels like I’m just getting started. I’m only 57 – that’s a teenager in the blues world!”

The Fragments CD Release and Art Display @ Ironwood Stage & Grill
Apr 19 @ 9:00 pm – Apr 20 @ 12:00 am

Double Album Release Party and Art Display:
The Fragments
with The Super 92

Cost: $20
**Be sure to call (403) 269-5581 to make a reservation. Your reservation is like your ticket to the show.**

The Fragments are pleased to be returning to the Ironwood to release their latest album, Winter Wasp. The band’s music has been described by the Calgary Herald as being “unabashedly odd and joyously weird, slightly askew pop.”

This time around, the band has teamed up with a group of Calgary visual artists who created paintings inspired by their new songs. The images will be projected during the performance, and a separate art-show event will follow the CD release in the spring.

Their new CD, Winter Wasp, continues their journey of exploring a variety of musical styles paired with intriguing lyrical ideas. Bossa nova, blues, synth pop, rock and jazz combine with songs about mythical heroes falling from buildings, honky tonk philosophers, teenage hijinks, and geological deep-time — all finding a home in the Fragments’ concise arrangements.

Winter Wasp was also a chance for the band to connect with classic studio techniques. Their album was recorded by Dale Ulan on his Stephens 821B, a vintage reel-to-reel machine that was once owned and used by the Grateful Dead. The use of analog tape gives the record a warm texture, and it didn’t allow for any digital studio “tricks.”

The Super 92 love playing music together, and when you do something because you love it, it shows. When you hear this band perform, it sounds like what it is: five friends with an abiding love of storytelling, four voices spinning a great yarn, roots and rock and even country, often both funny and sad, and all from Edmonton. Their forthcoming record, Two Sides of The Super 92, is a collaborative project in a way that previous material was not. Featuring lyrical and vocal contributions from each member of the band, if you love songs about adolescent misadventure, ancient volcanoes, and tongue-in-cheek regret, it’s the collection you’ve been waiting for!
