HOSTED BY: TBA
On Saturday, December 15th we are pleased to welcome:
The James Band- 11:00 a.m.
Julia Dolesji – 12:00 noon
Kat Zel – 12:15 p.m.
Brenda Dirk – 12:50 p.m.
Julia recently turned 13 and lives in Two Hills, Alberta. Julia has always been drawn to music. About 4 years ago, she discovered her voice and a love for performing. Julia has had the opportunity to sing at several community events, the Edmonton and Camrose Festival of Trees, both the Sherwood Park and the Provincial music festival and as a semi finalist on ATB Financial’s homegrown Talent Stage at Big Valley Jamboree. She has met so many great people along the way and is excited to continue her journey!
Kat has been inspired to synthesize a unique sound of her own. CBC Music Challenge adjudicators have called her voice “psychedelic” while comparing it to that of Janis Joplin. So, as you listen to the mixing of old and new vibes by Kat, maybe you too will understand why she is so excited to share her music with everyone willing to listen. Her captivating voice, profound lyrics and haunting melodies, will ignite powerful feelings. You’ll be mesmerized!
“It’s easy to find your dream – But it takes hard work to reach for it” – Brenda Dirk 2018
Brenda Dirk is about finding a path that is true to her heart. Her songwriting is a display of the world around her where she combines a modern pop-country sound with a clever lyric and melodic twist.
“When I am songwriting I like to incorporate a lot of grit into my melody and lyrics. I love putting a New Edge to my.” ————
On the cusp of her debut singles “ Shade’s On” and “Too Broke for Christmas” , Brenda released her Music Video of “Shades On” in July 2018 and her new single “Hell Ya'” in September. Brenda just released a YouTube video of “Hell Ya” that she produced/ directed herself with help from her friend Kat Zel. Her Christmas song “Too Broke for Christmas” just hit the airwaves followed by her lyric video.
Brenda was raised on the outskirts of Edmonton near the town of Spruce Grove. As a kid, music was always a driving force in her life but she didn’t discover just how much until her early teenage year’s. Whenever her Grandpa or Dad was playing a song on the guitar she would stop what ever she was doing just to be able to dance along to the melody. Brenda can never understand how people can stay still when listening to a good beat. Halfway through middle school Brenda entered a guitar class. As soon as she learned her first 4 chords she dived right into writing and performing her songs! Brenda is always challenging herself on a day to day basis. She is on a mission to become the best possible version of herself that she can be. In hope’s that she can influence the world through her words in a positive way!
“I would always catch Brenda singing on our drive’s home from school. When ever she sang I thought she was singing the lyric’s to a song. But when I asked her who wrote it, she just shrugged at me and told me she was just singing what ever words felt right. She truly see’s the world around her through music.” – Anna Dirk – Mother
Edmonton Music Award nominee for “Country Recording of the Year” & ” People’s Choice Award” and 2018 ACMA contender for Female Artist of the year as well as a Canadian Association of Songwriters Semi-Finalist award. With past performances at Big Valley Jamboree, The Needle Vinyl Tavern, CCMA’s ACMA showcase (Saskatoon) and Cook County Saloon to name a few, she’s getting ready to jump start her career with a fiery bang.
You will find Brenda working with some of Canada’s finest Musicians. Brenda’s Producer and friend Bobby Cameron has been a huge positive influence on her sound and career! “He always knows how to get my crazy songwriting brain- On Track”.
Once you have heard her, Brenda’s vocals and her “Country Soul” song writing style combination, will have you acknowledging her in a unique category in the Music Industry.
Like her Producer Bobby Cameron says: “She’s a Modern, Canadian Gretchen Wilson”. Watch out world!

Come on a Winter Instagrammable Walls of Edmonton Photo Walk taking place Saturday, December 15, 2018!
Join Linda Hoang and Sharon Yeo on this free, fun photo walk – where we’ll take Edmontonians to some of the most Instagrammable Walls of downtown Edmonton, from approximately 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 15.
Meet at Churchill Square—in front of the “Happy Wall” (across/south from where the wading pool used to be!)
The #IGWallsofYEG photo walk is free to attend, family and pet-friendly, and just a generally good time.
We do ask that participants please consider bringing a cash donation for Rust Magic Street Art Festival, who are responsible for bringing local and international artists to create many of our city’s beautiful murals! We’ll be stopping at one of their murals (Edmonton’s newest and biggest).
RSVP so we can get a sense of how big the group will be!
Read more about what an Instagrammable Walk is, below!
What is an Instagrammable Wall? It’s basically an interesting-looking wall that makes a great backdrop for a photo of yourself or your friends, posted to Instagram. Instagrammable Walls can be mural walls, bold, colourful walls, graffiti walls, interesting textured-walls – you name it. Instagrammable Walls add beauty to a city, and attracts people to a location that might otherwise not be frequented. It can often surprise you. My general rule of thumb is that an Instagrammable Wall needs to look neat, and be photographable with YOU at the base of it.
What is a Photo Walk? A Photo Walk is when a group of people get together and walk around a specific location, finding interesting opportunities and areas for taking pictures. Bring your cameras/phones, cute outfits, water bottle or snacks, and comfortable walking shoes! You’re welcome to join us for the entire walk, or just parts of the walk.
We’d like if you can RSVP so we have an idea of numbers, but you can also just show up the day of!
Where is the Meeting Point? On Saturday, December 15, 2018 we will meet at Churchill Square, in front of the “Happy Wall” (across/south from where the old wading pool was in front of City Hall) and walk as a group to several Instagrammable Walls along downtown Edmonton, stopping to take photos of one another at each wall along the way. This is a great opportunity to get awesome new profile pictures/cover photos and general great images of yourself and your friends with very artsy backdrops, and explore the neighbourhood!
See my Guide to the Instagrammable Walls of Edmonton
The first Instagrammable Walls of Edmonton Photo Walk took place on Saturday, June 3, 2017 as part of Make Something Edmonton’s 100 in 1 Day transform your city event. I’ve hosted several walks since, and have also created guides to walls in other cities! There’s been such a great response from Edmontonians who want to discover Instagrammable Walls! The intent is to help Edmontonians find beauty that’s all around this city, encourage people to explore their city, and spur the creation of more Instagrammable Walls!
Join the Instagrammable Walls of Edmonton Facebook Group!
This Facebook Group was created late (oops) but we hope it becomes a hub for Edmontonians interested in finding out where different Instagrammable Walls are, and learning about upcoming walks! Click above to join the group. Hope to see you at this next walk!!
Follow me on Instagram and Twitter for walk updates!
